We exist to simplify how people work with information, using intelligent technology to remove unnecessary complexity and help organisations focus on what truly matters.
Our purpose is not simply to process documents or automate tasks. We believe in challenging the way organisations traditionally manage content, so that information becomes easier to capture, understand, trust, and use.
We see this as an infinite game. There is no final finish line in innovation, service, or trust. Our role is to keep improving, keep adapting, and keep building solutions that support our clients as their needs evolve.
Our story
From a simple idea to an evolving platform.
The need was identified
SmartImage began with a clear observation: organisations needed a simpler, smarter way to capture, process, and manage documents at scale.
SmartImage was born
The first version of SmartImage was launched as a backend image collation and OCR solution, laying the foundation for intelligent document capture.
Built for high-volume processing
SmartImage expanded with custom book scanners and enhanced bulk processing capabilities, enabling large document volumes to be captured more efficiently.
Scaling beyond borders
SmartImage delivered the vehicle-registration (MVR) project in Uganda and engaged its first digitisation bureau in South Africa, taking the platform across borders and into high-volume production.
Physical meets digital
SmartImage built Trakem, extending the platform to track physical files, their location, movement and chain of custody, linked to the digital records they belong to.
Learning, growth and scale
Enhanced learning capabilities were introduced, and SmartImage reached a major milestone by processing more than 100 million pages.
A major platform release
A major release of SmartImage shipped, with Leap already established and in production.
A new SmartImage experience
A refreshed SmartImage platform introduced improved scanning capabilities and SmartSync, enabling background image uploading from scan stations.
Expanding the platform
SmartImage introduced multi-tenancy, broadening its support for enterprise environments and client-specific needs.
A suite takes shape
SmartImage expanded with Conserve, Leap and xPlore, creating a more complete ecosystem for capture, preservation and interactive document access.
AI-driven transformation
LLM integration and major project delivery, including the IEC 2025 project, marked a new phase of AI-enabled document intelligence.
